1. Physical Control: Because ant nests are difficult to locate, physical methods are difficult to control indoors. They are limited to killing visible worker ants and cannot eradicate the entire colony. Common methods include scalding the ants with boiling water.
2. Chemical Control: Chemical control of indoor ants primarily relies on poison bait. Poison baits with a good palatability and low repellent properties are placed in various cracks and crevices indoors, or along ant paths (their feeding routes). Taking advantage of the ants’ tendency to move food, the bait is carried into the nest, killing the queen and king, ultimately eliminating the entire colony. When using chemical methods, the poison bait should be used to kill the entire colony first. Avoid applying aerosol insecticides or sprays throughout the entire colony at the outset, as this can spread the colony and worsen the infestation.
